Years of safety research and engineering have gone into the development of Munchkin safety gates.  The smallest details on every gate have been designed to maximize safety.  Each gate has at least two locking mechanisms to ensure a child cannot open it.  Vertical slat or dowel design eliminates potential footholds for a child to climb over.  Pressure mount gates employ a sturdy U-shaped powerframe made of steel to generate a strong four-point seal in openings.

Rigorous Testing

Munchkin safety gates are built to the highest quality standards and rigorously tested to meet or exceed BOTH U.S. and European safety standards – to ensure we are always up to date.
Below is a sample of required test standards for all of our gates:

  • Impact Test:  A 1.4 pound weight is repeatedly hurled against gate handle to simulate a child challenging the gate

  • Fatigue Test:  Gate is opened and closed for 5,000 cycles; test is then repeated in the other direction to check durability of opening mechanism

  • Static Load Test:  A 33 pound weight is hung off the gate and the gate is opened and closed 10 times in each direction to simulate the weight of a child standing on the gate bottom
